Ans. The primary objective of the consultation with Dr Anand Shroff, our LASIK surgeon, is to determine that whether you are a candidate for laser vision correction (LASIK), and if so, which procedure is most appropriate for you. He conducts various tests which determine this, including tests for vision quality post LASIK such as pupil size, reaction to know dim light situations, dry eye conditions etc. At the end of your consultation, Dr Shroff will discuss which procedure suits you the best, whether it is custom or wavefront LASIK, Bladeless LASIK etc. If you have not yet contacted us, we recommend you send us the following information to help you better: 1. Age 2. Current Refraction (spectacle numbers) 3. Lifestyle – outdoor, computers etc / profession 4. Any significant medical or eye history 5. An eye report / tests done
Ans. The LASIK procedure has been tested for a long time and over a million people undergo this procedure every year. Many published data proves that it does not have any long term effects. Dr Anand Shroff is a very meticulous surgeon. He will not advise LASIK for you if he has the slightest doubt about its results. Only when Dr Shroff is confident that you will benefit from it, is when he advises LASIK. This is why you will find Dr Shroff personally checking your eyes and taking the pre LASIK maps and data, unlike many centres that leave these steps to their juniors or technicians. Any event in your life which can change the internal eye optics such as getting a cataract or a retina problem is due to age, diabetes and other reasons. Yes, this would affect vision. But these events would have occurred respective of LASIK. These conditions are not related to LASIK and need to be treated independently. These are events which happen internally within the eye, while LASIK and EpiLASIK procedures work on the surface of the eye.
Ans. I do appreciate your concerns about the procedure. These are your healthy normal eyes we are talking about! That is why we use the finest technology and deliver successful results! What may help is visiting some sites like the US FDA website. This will help you at least identify centers with older lasers and you can learn more about the laser technology and how success rates differ for each type of technology. We too have this simplified on our site https://lasikindia.in/services-view/safety/. This is the reason why with our strict protocols and way of working we have never had any case of infection. Complications of LASIK include those from the technology like night vision problems. Complications of LASIK come from 4 sources:- Doctors inexperience: Our advantage: Dr Anand Shroff is the only eye surgeon from India training over 100’s of doctors every year in from world over on our technology. He is one of the longest experienced LASIK surgeons in India. Since Dr Anand is also primarily a corneal surgeon doing corneal transplants for many years even before doing LASIK, it helps us give excellent results. We have never had any problems surgically. Older technology: Our advantage: We have always offered the best available of that time to our patients because we value their eyes. Today, the laser we use is 5 times more expensive than other lasers available in value, however, we chose to offer the best in the world to our patients at a cost which is one fourth of what it is available in the other 5 places in the world viz. Germany, Switzerland, Finland, Japan and Kuwait. Complications of LASIK include those from the technology like night vision problems. Since our laser system is most advanced it has zero night vision trouble. In fact with our experience and reputation we have corrected complications of other centers. Center not having strict infection controls: Our advantage: We are the only eye hospital in India to be certified by the highest Healthcare body from JCAHO, USA. The committee gave the hospital a special certificate for exemplary performance in infection control. We have had ZERO cases of infection and are using complete disposables for the procedure. Patient not the ideal candidate: Our advantage: A thorough check up with the doctor himself. Other complications are more consequences of doing LASIK on an unsuitable candidate such as one who has dry eyes. So, dry eyes are another problem that you will read about. Again in our center, we check each and every patient quantitatively with a special dry eye test. If any patient is found to have dry eyes, then depending on the severity appropriate treatment is advised to the patients. For mild to moderate dry eyes we suggest Epi LASIK, a new procedure that you can read about on our website www.lasikindia.in. The only thing that we prepare our patients for is the event of needing a fine tuning of the treatment. This is rare, but still seen because, in spite of having done our best and taken all predictable objectives, we still cannot predict body healing. It sometimes can heal leaving behind a small number. In our experience we have seen up to 0.75 D usually. However, this is treatable and we offer to re treat this number free of cost in the first year. Hence, it only means that in rare cases LASIK may be in two steps. The rate of this re treatment or fine tuning in our center is less than 0.4% which in most centers is upto 20%. Other than this, we have not faced any other issues.
Ans. If planned well, you do not need more than 3-4 days in total. . If from out of Mumbai city and we plan that if Day 1 is the consultation with Dr Anand Shroff and Day 2 is the procedure (e.g. Friday and Saturday, then you may leave Mumbai on Tuesday). Those who are working and even if using the computers for long hours in the office, can plan to join work on Day 3. The schedule can also be planned well that you do not need more than a day’s leave from work, if Day 1 is consultation and Day 2 is the procedure e.g. Friday and Saturday, then you may join your office on Monday. Yes, do keep in mind that in the first week you may need to take frequent breaks from your PC and also use eye drops at work. We also prefer that you start driving only after 4-5 days when you are comfortable with your vision.

Our upper limit is -12.00 D spherical and – /+6.00 D cylindrical. Furthermore, LASIK is not only about the laser, but the experience and skill of the surgeon is extremely important. If that were not the case, then even an ordinary technician would have been treating your eyes! Dr Anand Shroff, is one of India’s leading LASIK surgeons.
