City's Eye Care Gets A Technological Boost - The Afternoon

Published on 12th July 2004 in Afternoon, Bombay.

The world’s most advanced technology for customized laser corrections, the Wavefront 400 Hz, has been launched at Perfect Wave Lasik Center at Shroff Eye Hospital in the city.

The latest in the laser technologies for refractive correction, the Wavefront 400 Hz technology is equipped with a completely computer controlled laser. This provides patients the highest level of safety, accuracy and reliability available in laser technology. Further, the technology is fully customized to the individual patient’s eye. The 400 Hz technology has the most sensitive eye tracker in the world to ensure accurate and well-centered treatments.

With the launch of the Wavefront 400 Hz technology, people in India will have access to technology and precision available only at select centers in the world. “Of the various technology options that we had available, we chose the 400 Hz Wavefront technology since it is very safe and error-free,” said Dr. Anand Shroff, chief surgeon, Perfect Wave Lasik Center and a well-known eye-care specialist. “Further it allows patients with a much higher eye power to be treated safely and also can correct poorly done laser techniques,” he added.

Dr. Shroff elaborated on the technical advantage of the Wavefront 400 Hz and said, “ Patient awareness is critical to better treatment and it will be out continued effort to educate the people about advantages of using the Wavefront 400 Hz stands a head over the older laser version available in India. The older and discount lasers use antiquated technology like manual eye-tracking, low frequency of treatment, larger beam width, putting the patient to the risk of errors.”

The Wavefront 400 Hz technology, on the other hand, maps the cornea at 168 individual points through an unique abberometer. The cornea is then treated by small-spot laser beams to compensate for the correction making the treatment completely customized and error-free for patients. Often, it has been seen that treatment with the Wavefront 400Hz improves vision. For further information on this laser technology contact Shroff Eye Hospital at 56921000/56939372.
