| | ARABS
from the Gulf have been coming to Mumbai for eye surgeries for several decades,
staying in the city for a few days, both in the pre- and post-operative stages.
But now, thanks to technology, eye surgeries and vision corrections are carried
out within minutes, and the patients can leave for home the same day. |
| Anand
Shroff has treated several Arab patients at his centre in Mumbai, and in the past,
both his father and grandfather have also performed surgeries on visitors from
the Gulf.
The young cheif surgeon at the PerfectWave Lasik Centre at the
Shroff Eye Clinic has performed over 5,000 laser surgeries for refractive corrections
of myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism using lasers.
Dr.Shroff recently introduced
the latest refractive laser correction technology at his ISO 9001:2000 accredited
centre at the Shroff Eye hospital in Bandra, using 400Hz Wavefront technology.
With
the launch of Wavefront 400Hz, patients will have access to technology and precision
available only at select centers in the world, says Dr. Shroff. It
allows patients with a much higher eye power to be treated, and can also correct
poorly done laser techniques at the mushrooming discount laser centers.
Many
patients from the Gulf have already been treated by Dr. Shroff, using the new
technology. He points out that not all the corrections are for cosmetic purposes.
According
to Dr.Safala Shroff, his wife who also counsels patients at the centre
- for many young persons, such vision corrections are vital in their professions.
The
PerfectWave Lasik Centre gets patients from all over the world. According to Anand
Shroff, the use of the latest technology will enhance Indias status as a
major medical tourism hub. The cost of treatment here is o sixth of those prevalent
in New York or London. NRIs, and increasingly many foreigners, are finding it
cheaper to fly to Mumbai for such corrections. |
