What is wavefront laser eye surgery?
Wavefront-guided LASIK, also referred to as custom LASIK or wavefront LASIK, is when in addition to treating a patient’s basic refractive error (spectacle power), specific alterations in a patient’s eye (high order aberrations) can also be treated. Here special mapping using a wavefront analyzer (aberrometer) needs to be done. Many centres do not have a wavefront analyzer and only rely on their clinical findings and the Topography maps. The wavefront measurements identify irregularities in the patient’s optical system and when these are severe, they can affect vision quality, contrast sensitivity, and night vision. The goal is to achieve a more optically perfect eye.
